The conversation was going well between the three of them, until Arista tried to open the door. He then raised an eyebrow as the door was slowly opening. "What the hell." He thought to himself. Just that one strong pull? Why could he not think of that before? He then saw Marina opening the door, he got his fighting position, ready, as though he's ready to fight off the person who kidnapped all three of them all together. He did see the door, as though he was ready to tackle the guy for an attack, so, his body was ready. He saw that she was pushing Marina from the door and thought as she was protecting her from something. He willing to go outside and attack the person, IF it was the person, but, instead, heard growling. What? The stalker was a monster or something? "Oh hell no..." He said to himself, as his body was still in position. A couple of seconds later, he saw that there was a dog coming into the room. Ok, things just got started to get interesting. First a pull to easily open the door, and now a dog coming in. He let out a sigh of relief, thinking that this was going to get more intense later on, but, knew that he was going to survive this, hopefully the dog would be able to protect them from whatever lived out there in the shadows. He saw that the dog was somewhat friendly and pets it. "Hey, fella." He said, and noticed that it looked protective as well. "As long as you stay with us, you'll be fine." He said, petting Balto.

I'm getting the hell out of here

He'd taken Marina's eyes a few seconds to get used to the darkness; but even before then, she'd been able to sense a presence lurking around, meters away from her, close to what could possibly be the door that'd lead them out. Her breathing got stuck in her throat; she could feel Arista' tight grip on her hand, and saw that Jim was preparing himself to fight in the corner of her eyes. If she warned them...
Before she could consider saying anything, the presence started running towards her. Taken aback, Marina tried retreating hastily into the room, pushing Arista with her. Her heartbeat accelerated greatly as whatever was attacking her let out a menacing growl and, with a surprised scream, she fell against the wall behind her as it violently pushed her away, feeling pain lacerate her cheek.
Hearing the beast growl again, she whimpered in fear, placing an arm in front of herself to protect her face, as Arista pulled on her other arm to take her away. Yet, surprisingly, the next attack didn't come; or, at least, not against her. The beast jumped behind the door, and seemed to bite something, or... someone?
Someone had been standing behind that door, centimeters away from her, all this time?
Her eyes went back up. Hid deed done, the beast had turned towards all of them again, revealing itself to be but a dog, wagging its tail as if all was good with the world. Marina took a deep breath, shakingly nodding to Arista as she asked if she was fine and used the woman as support to get back on her feet. She glanced behind the door. No one. … … was IT gone?
As she checked around, still trembling from the emotion, she noticed her two friends bonding with the dog, and she couldn't stop herself from wincing. She was tempted to pull them both away from him like she'd done with Arista moments ago with the door. The thing had just jumped on her, after all; but for what she understood, now that she could process the situation, it seemed like it had... protected her? But from what?
She looked down at the dog. Balto, Arista had said. Marina didn't know how to feel. True, he'd probably saved her, but she couldn't shake away the nerves right away. The pain was still strong on her cheek. She'd really thought he was going to eat her alive. Or try.
Hesitant, she made one step towards the dog, and awkwardly pat his head once, before quickly retrieving her hand, as if still expecting it to bite her. “... thank you.” she whispered.
She then turned to her companions. “...What the hell was that? That thing, behind the door? Where did the dog...”
She suddenly shut up for a moment. She was letting her emotions get the best of her again; and even if she had quite good reasons, this was no way to act. She took a deep breath once more... She didn't know what this place was, but with such a good start, this was going to be one hell of a day.

Balto looked at the three of them. Wagging his tail faster when they pet his head. And when Arista said his name, he barked and wagged his tail faster. He licked both Jim and Arista's hand before looking at Marina when she just gave him a pet. He looked at her and cocked his head to the right, giving a little whine.
Maybe she doesn't like me? Balto thought.
Balto then heard a noise causing him to growl. He barked at the three of them before walking to the door. He barked at the door across the hallway. Trying to tell them they needed to go there. It was safer there. He looked back at them.
Come on!!!
He barked again and stepped a bit further out of the door. He didn't want to run off without them, but he wanted them to come. It was time to leave this place.

There has to be a way out...

Arista looked back at Marina when she spoke. "I-I don't, I didn't even see... I was too busy freaking out..." she admitted, before giggling when Balto licked her hand. "Aww, he likes me!"
When he whined, she gave him a hug. "It's okay, boy, I think she's just nervous," she said with a smile.
At his growl at a noise, Arista stood up. When he barked at them, she looked at the others. "Um... I think he wants us to follow..." she said, before he barked again and stepped out the door.
"I get the feeling he knows this place a little... Come on, I think we're safe with him." Arista felt more lively now and safer since Balto arrived. She had always been an animal person and as much as she felt safe with the other two, it felt as if their group became stronger when Balto arrived.
She started to move out the door, looking around cautiously. "I... I think the thing that tried to get you is gone, Marina..."

Marina pouted. Of course she was nervous. She had good reasons to be. And not only because she'd almost been attacked by an unknown creature. “I've never really felt that safe around dogs...” she admitted. The only dogs she'd had at her parents' home were guard dogs. If they'd never attacked her, she was asked not to interact with her since they were only there to guard, and she'd always pictured them as killing machine ready to destroy any burglar that'd dare come into their property.
Yet, Arista seemed to feel at ease around him. Marina easily believed she was probably better with dogs than she was; plus, he seemed friendly enough. Swallowing down her fear, she looked around once more, whatever had attacked her really did seem gone, and the blonde woman seemed ready to follow their dog guide towards a door. It probably was the best idea; the “thing” lurking in this hallway wasn't safe, but staying into their closed room wouldn't get them anywhere.
“Alright” she breathed out, still nervous “Let's follow it... him.” She walked to Arista's side, at a safe distance from Balto, but still close enough so the beast he'd scared off would possibly consider her under his protection. She was still going to let the blonde woman take the lead on this one. She would know how to handle Balto much better than her.
Before leaving, she turned towards Jim. “You coming? We really need to get out of here.” As if she needed to convince him after that.

Although he could tell that the girls were nervous about going to the place, he was also hearing that she never felt safe around dogs and he nodded. "Wow, never heard of someone being safe around dogs before." He turned to Marina and puts an arm around her. "I think this one is worth trusting, to be honest. It looks like a guard dog indeed." Jim said, and patted her shoulder and quickly pats the dog again. He could also tell that although the dogs she knew in the last were dangerous, he did hope that she would feel safe around this one. Jim, when it came to dogs, never owned one, but, did remember the dogs in his neighborhood looking really friendly. He then saw that she was calming down when seeing the dog, and after all, it looked like one of those guardian doggies that would protect anyone. Although it looked adorable, he looked like it was ready for a fight. He did admire the dog licking Arista before, and then before, when licking his hand, he did give out a small chuckle. He then started to follow the dog, willing to think that it was giving out a good sense of direction. "I trust the dog." He said, to both of the girls as he was started to follow the rest of the group, hoping and gaining trust with the dog.
